Gould Whittlesey Hart (Nathan8, Nathan7, Titus6, Solomon5, John4, John3, John2, Deacon Stephen1) was born in West Cornwall, CT on November 22, 1855. He grew up in a farming family in West Cornwall, but he soon followed a number of his relatives to New York City, where he became a well know photographer. He traveled around the world, with trips to Europe and Asia, as well across North America, always taking pictures of the places he visited. His pictures were sold in printed form and he created many slide shows from his large glass slides. Here are a few of his pictures scanned from the original glass slides.
His pictures were all taken in black and white, but he hand colored a few of them to make his slide shows more interesting. You will also see some slides showing text or humorous subjects, which he added to keep the shows fun. He carried his slides with him so he could give slide shows to paying audiences when he traveled.
